3-D Magic! Simple Blocks, Striking Quilts マーシー・ベイカー＆サラ・ニューヒュー著

The 96 pages are packed with diagrams that actually make the piecing make sense, and I finished my first rising cubes block in an afternoon. Thirteen blocks feels like plenty to keep going without getting bored.

I've never done 3D quilting before and the step-by-step photos for each block made it feel doable. The rising cubes block is my favorite so far, though cutting the fabric strips accurately took me a couple tries. Can't believe these are flat fabrics once they're pieced.

The 13 block patterns are laid out so clearly that I finished my first rising cubes quilt top in a weekend, and the diagrams actually show how the flat pieces create that 3D illusion. I've quilted for years and still picked up a few fabric-placement tricks I hadn't thought of.
