Chimney Sweep was identified by Ruth Finley in her book, Old Patchwork Quilts and the Women Who Made The, in 1929. Old Patchwork Quilts is credited as being the second quilting book written in American. Ruth described as "a very common and easily made pattern". She described youth climbing on roofs and becoming intimate with chimney tops.

It's still true today with brick-shaped patches and squares... made even easier and more fun using accurate cutting tools.
Another popular name for Chimney Sweep is Christian Cross. Yardage for a five block Christian Cross plus a photograph of a beautiful queen quilt are included.
As an added bonus, sewing instructions for one block is included for an antique Album Quilt using the Chimney Sweep die.

Christopher ★★★★★

I've been searching for the original Chimney Sweep pattern since reading Ruth Finley's book, and this Accuquilt die cuts the pieces perfectly every time. The fabric doesn't shift at all during cutting, which saves so much frustration when you're working with those smaller blocks.

Nicholas G. ★★★★★

This pattern cuts so precisely that my piecing is finally coming out square. The die shape itself is surprisingly versatile for both scrappy and planned layouts.

Steven ★★★★★

The pattern's instructions are clear, and I love that it ties back to Ruth Finley's 1929 book — it gives the whole project a nice piece of quilting history. My blocks came together exactly as shown, no surprises at all.
