Deanne Moore of Creative Sewlutions modernizes the Courthouse Steps by making a quilt that is one giant block. It is shaded with each of the four sides a different color. Accent squares form a diagonal path across the quilt. Large strips show off brilliant fabrics in this fast-to-sew quilt — simply follow the plan.

Lily X. ★★★★★

I love how the shading on each of the four sides creates that diagonal accent square effect—it made the layout so satisfying to piece together. The instructions were clear enough that even a intermediate quilter like me could follow along without trouble.

Chloe K. ★★★★★

The giant block construction made this pattern much simpler to follow than other Courthouse Steps variations I’ve tried. I’m almost done with the top and the alternating accent squares really pop against the shaded sides.

Sofia ★★★★★

I love how the shaded four sides create such a modern look—it makes the courthouse steps feel fresh again. The accent squares forming a diagonal add just the right amount of interest without being overwhelming.
