The tracing and topstitching steps were exactly as described—my first raw-edge project came together without any frustration, and the tiny hat pieces were fiddly but doable. The finished 18" square puffin has so much charm, I'm already eyeing fabric for a second one.

The applique pieces are a nice size for practicing raw-edge techniques without feeling fiddly. I traced and cut the puffin's rain boots in an afternoon, and the finished 18-inch block is already one of my cutest projects.
